Children's Hat Sizes - How to Measure Head Circumference Correctly.

Measure head circumference

To best measure your child's head, you can simply use a soft tape measure and wrap it around their head. Make sure the tape measure runs straight above the ears and the widest part of the head.

Tip: Please make sure to use a soft tape measure, which is also used for sewing. Metal tape measures can injure a child's head when measuring head circumference and are not suitable for measuring round shapes due to their material.

If you don't have a soft tape measure at hand, then use a thread. Wrap the thread around the child's head as described above and note or mark the two points where the thread meets. Lay the thread on a ruler or a metal tape measure and read the length. That's how you measure your child's head size.

Kids' Hat Sizes – What to Consider When Choosing a Hat

  • The kids' cap or hat must fit snugly on the head and should never pinch or cut in.
Make sure that you can adjust the kids' cap if necessary, so that it grows with your child and they can wear it longer. The children's caps from Soulbuddy in size S fit babies from about 3 months. Our caps for children and adults are adjustable at the back of the head, thus guaranteeing an ideal fit.

Here you can find the Soulbuddy size chart.

When buying hats or caps, always pay attention to the actual head circumference of the child, given in cm, not the age recommendations. These are always only approximate and can vary greatly, as babies' and children's heads grow very quickly in the first few years, but above all, at different rates.
Most age recommendations are based on data and measurement methods from the WHO (World Health Organization) – head circumference for children.
